Meet the Board

The NAAAHR-Tampa Bay, Board of Directors is made up of all levels of career-minded professionals, across all industries who all share the same vision to inspire confidence through enhanced knowledge.

President Darlene Hill

Darlene E. Hill is the owner and President of The Leyda Group, an HR consulting company that helps small businesses with HR compliance and management training. She is also an HR professional with over 15 years of progressive HR experience and is a Certified Predictive Index Practitioner and a DDI Targeted Selection Interviewer and Coach. Darlene has worked in a variety of industries to include banking, construction, non-profit and healthcare and has worked in organizations with staff sizes ranging from 100 to over 40,000. She has lead teams of other HR professionals and is passionate about coaching others, servant leadership and providing guidance. Her introduction to human resources started with payroll and benefits where her duties were more generalist in nature and now provides coaching, leadership and development opportunities to management and executive teams.

Darlene is a native of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and has a BA degree in Business Administration from the University of the Virgin Islands.


COO-EVP 
– Marian Rhodes

Marian A. Rhodes is a consultant in Diversity and Inclusion, HR Training Acquisition, Organizational Development, Career Coaching and Culture, and Process Improvement. Marian has taken her many years working in the field of HR and began the journey into consulting. Her passion for assisting clients in achieving their goals and eliminating those areas where barriers exist is her goal. From the moment she started her career in the HR field as a corporate trainer, she knew she had a knack for connecting with people and helping them in Paving the Rhodes 4 Life’s Success.

With 30+ years working as a Sports HR executive, her focus was on fairness and consistency in business practices as well as the treatment of employees. Her aim was to perform at the highest level and motivate and inspire others to do the same. Her ability to thoroughly listen, analyze issues, and collaborate to come up with the best solution for all parties involved have been at the root of her success.

As a Sports Executive, she worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals. During her tenure with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where she held the position of SVP, Chief Human Resources & Diversity Officer, she had the opportunity to re-develop the human resources and diversity functions while also reinforcing a workplace culture and inclusion where the best and brightest in the sports industry want to work.

Prior to joining the D-backs, Rhodes spent 20 years at the St. Louis Cardinals. As Vice President of Public Affairs, she oversaw all aspects of the organization’s employment and workforce diversity initiatives, in addition to being responsible for office administration, customer service, and public affairs. While at the Cardinals, Rhodes contributed greatly to New Busch Stadium by building public and private support for the construction of the new ballpark, which opened in 2006.

Over the years Rhodes has received many honors, 2016 Titans of the Trade Award, presented by Mayweather Promotions and the Arizona Informant Newsmaker Award. She has been named AZ Business Magazine as one of the 50 Most Influential Women and the HR Best Practices Award. She was featured in Forefront Magazine and named to Arizona Foothills Magazine’s “Women Who Move the Valley.” She was featured on the cover of Talent Management magazine and named as a “Game Changer” by Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal. She is a past recipient of the St. Louis Business Journal’s Most Influential Women Award, the “Yes I Can” Achiever and Role Model Award, the Dollars and Sense America’s Best and Brightest Business Women Award and the Missouri Lottery Leadership Award. She also served on numerous boards, the Urban League of Metropolitan, Life Skills Foundation and the Family Resource Center and most recently NAAAHR, Ronald McDonald House of Charities and Arizona Community Foundation.

Rhodes earned an Accounting degree from Florida A&M and an MBA in Marketing from Webster University.


Vice President of Administration – Yashica DeBerry

Yashica DeBerry is currently an HR Generalist at TruGreen Lawncare, where Yashica manages the full HR function for a 200 employee sales call center.

Yashica has worked with reputable companies including Automatic Data Processing (ADP Inc.), Paychex, McKesson Pharmaceuticals, and Emory University. Yashica believes in always keeping the “human” in human resources. She maintains that when a healthy balance of caring for the employee and business can be achieved, this is a recipe for success.

Yashica was born and raised in South Carolina. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 2006. Yashica currently resides in Wesley Chapel, Florida with her husband Aaron, and two boys, Maxwell and Xavier. In her spare time, she likes to bake scrumptious desserts.

Vice President of CommunicationsKenya Boatright, MBA, BA

Kenya Boatright considers herself to be Chief NAAAHR Superhero dedicated to connecting other HR Champions with their own Superhero Powers as you cannot spell Superhero without HR. A Servant Leader dedicated to the development of solid pathways for success for employees and clients through motivational management and strategic vision, Kenya is seasoned in the area of Human Resources, Benefits Administration, and Client Services to foster the full life cycle of an employee to reach their full potential. Kenya is currently serving in an HRO environment with Corban OneSource, supporting mid-size level clients with a variety of needs across HR Support, Benefits Administration and Payroll Support. Her role as Steward of the HEROES Experience is dedicated to providing client support at the employee level. Her team, The HEROES Team is dedicated to being Champions of the Client Experience for each associate, every time. She has over ten years experience in the area of client services to include operational support and training and development.

Kenya earned her Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from the Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University and her Bachelor of Arts, Political Science from Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Vice President of Membership – Derica Bennett, PHR

Derica Bennett is an accomplished HR professional with an extensive background and working knowledge of employee relations, performance management, training, and state/federal compliance. Derica currently works for Cognizant as an HR Manager Business Partner for Quality Engineering and Assurance. In this role, she serves as a strategic business partner for North America who collaborates with senior leadership to resolve course and shape of the people strategy. Derica is responsible for all HR affairs including labor relations, rewards and recognition, performance management, change management, executive coaching and learning and development for 1,400+ employees nationwide.
Prior to joining Cognizant, Derica has worked in various HR roles in other industries including Telecommunications, Healthcare, and Education.
Derica earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Human Sciences and Psychology from Florida State University and holds a Master’s of Science in Human Resources Management from Nova Southeastern University. She has earned certifications in Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).

Director of Digital Media- Marvin Matthews,

Marvin has held several different positions in the HR field ranging form an HR Recruiter/Coordinator to Regional Human Resources Manager. Currently, he is in an HR Management role with Cognizant where he and two peers support a team of 800+ employees in areas of employee relations, leaves of absences, benefits, compensation, policies/procedure, and performance management.

After a brief career in Sports Journalism, Marvin made the career change to Human Resources in 2013. After getting his start in the field recruiting locally for Courtesy Automotive in the Tampa Bay area, Marvin held several more positions before becoming an HR Manager and supporting several luxury dealerships in the San Diego area, including Audi, Land Rover and Porsche.

After starting his college career at Jackson State University, Marvin transferred to Florida State University where he received his bachelor’s degree. He is currently studying and preparing for the PHR, certification which he plans to take and pass in the Fall.
